One
of South East Asias busiest ports back in the 16th
century , when it was home to a thriving populationof Japanese and
Chinese merchants whose descendants still live there today. This mixed
cultural heritage can be seen today in the town architecture, with
the famous Japanese covered bridge and houses built in the medieval
Chinese style . Unesco last year named the town as one of Vietnams
four World Heritage sites . Hoi An is now part of Quang Nam province,
a moutainous area with many oeaks over 2,000m.

Bus
The usual way of getting to Hoi An is to take a bus from DaNang bus
station (at33 Dien Bien Phu). Hoi An bus station is 1km west of the
town centre,at 74 Huynh Thuc Khang; open 5am-5pm.

My Son Sanctuary
The holy Champa
city ,built in the fourth century , was recognised as a world heritage
site in 1999. It was the sight of the important Cham intellectual
and religious centre, and also served as a burial place for Cham monarchs.
The monuments here are set in a verdant valley surrounded bu hills
and shadowed by the massive Cats Tooth Mountain(Hon Quap).
Clear brooks (perfect for a dip) run between the structures and past
nearby coffee plantations. Most of the temple in My Son were dedicated
to Cham kings associated with divinities.
